THE Supplier Development Programme (SDP) has put out a call for local businesses in Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council), Orkney Islands Council and Shetland Islands Council to attend a free webinar with the Scottish Procurement Alliance (SPA).
“The SPA is looking to create a framework that works for each Island, so we encourage all sole traders, micro and small businesses to attend this event to see how they might get involved in upcoming work,” said Gillian Cameron, SDP Programme manager.
“Looking at the Orkney Islands, Shetland Islands and Western Isles together, there is £87.8m earmarked for new build developments by Scottish Government.
“How will this work be delivered in the future? The public and private sectors need local supply chains to deliver this for the local economy, and local councils will likely use the SPA framework to award work to businesses.
“That’s why it’s so important for local businesses to get involved now, to plan for the future and not miss out.
“During SDP’s free webinar tomorrow, businesses will hear from experts within SPA on the second generation of this Housing Framework and the details of the 22 lots.
“Potential suppliers will have the opportunity to ask questions of the buyer, to fully understand what is required to bid, and learn how to access the tender documents – live online.”
The SPA framework will include the development of new-build housing projects, including traditional housing like houses, bungalows, flats, apartments, care homes, extra care and supporting living accommodation; student accommodation and conversion of commercial buildings for residential use.
Suppliers are also required for potential rooftop developments, medium to high rise housing, Net Zero Carbon and low energy buildings, mixed use sites, housing plus community or commercial buildings, development agreements and land purchases, associated groundworks, civil engineering and infrastructure works and site demolition and clearance.
Local businesses are not just required in the construction sector; local businesses that can provide key worker accommodation are also encouraged to attend.
“The SPA carried out substantial pre-tender engagement across the Highlands and Islands already, but is committed to assist local businesses as much as possible.
“That’s why this online session has been arranged – to give an overview of the framework, a walkthrough of the ProContract portal system and a discussion around case studies.”
The webinar will take place tomorrow, 18 August from 10:00am to 11:30am.
The virtual event is free to attend, and businesses must register for a free account via www.sdpscotland.co.uk in advance.
