FINNISH offshore sailing team, Tulikettu Racing, is gearing up to race later this year with a newly-designed yacht featuring cutting-edge technology.
‘King of the Southern Ocean’, Stu Bannatyne, describes this design as “a new level of performance”, from Infiniti Yachts, and Glasgow-based marketing agency, GRM Marketing, has been appointed to lead their partnership strategy.
Tulikettu, named after the mythical Firefox of Finnish folklore, will be launching their International ocean racing campaign at the Rolex Middle Sea Race in Malta in October 2021. They will then take on a series of races in the RORC circuit with ambitions to win the RORC Championships 2022/2023 edition.
The yacht will be one of the most advanced foiling racing yachts in the world with an international professional team made up of Finnish amateur sailors, predominantly.
The USP of the team is that they are Finnish amateur sailors with world-class mentors behind them. Olympic champion, Thomas Johanson (FIN), Kenneth Thelen (FIN), Jules Salter (GBR) and ‘King of the Southern Ocean’, Stu Bannatyne (NZD), will be onboard Tulikettu for the inaugural race.
Arto Linnervuo is the owner of Tulikettu Racing and commodore of Xtra Staerk Ocean Racing Society, an offshore racing team and society based in Finland.
Coming off his recent win in the 2021 Gotland Runt aboard his XP44, Linnervuo, he said: “We have an ambitious set of offshore goals for our offshore campaign, and our new boat is the future-proof Grand Prix yacht required to achieve them. We are ready to kickoff the RORC season with the 2021 Rolex Middle Sea Race and look forward to some great racing.
“We are delighted to be working with GRM Marketing who have extensive experience in the sport industry and have supported numerous winning teams and campaigns in the ocean racing circuit.”
GRM Marketing has an accomplished history in international yacht racing, supporting Team Maverick and Team Ireland in previous years. GRM has now been selected to lead the partnership strategy for this brand-new Infiniti 52R.
Gordon Ritchie, managing director of GRM Marketing, said: “GRM Marketing is excited to be a part of Tulliketu Racing. With Xtra Staerk Ocean Racing Society, Infiniti Yachts and Will Jackson of Racetec Rigging all involved, this team is one to watch in the Royal Ocean Racing Circuit.
“The Infiniti 52 yacht and the team of world-class sailors could have the potential to become one of the strongest racing teams on the international yacht racing market and we look forward to the launch of this stunning technological DSS foiling racing yacht.”
