Media release: U3a to hear how Scotland in 2070 could be ‘healthy, wealthy and wise’

Scot2070

IMAGINE a thriving and prosperous Scotland in just 50 years’ time.

The ways to achieve this are what co-authors, Hillary Sillitto and Ian Godden, will reveal on Wednesday 19 May.

They are sharing their new book’s vision and predictions at Edinburgh u3a’s online monthly meeting. This free event from 2.30pm-4pm is for current and potential u3a members via https://u3asites.org.uk/edinburgh/events

Edinburgh u3a vice-chair, Ann Keating, who will interview Hillary and Ian about the ideas that led to publication, said: “It’s my special pleasure to introduce this thought-provoking piece of work which Hillary, one of our own u3a members has co-written.

“I’m certain we will have a lot of talk about given this book is confidently entitled: Scotland 2070 Healthy, Wealthy and Wise: an ambitious vision for Scotland’s future – without the politics. Our generation wants to help our children and their families make the most of living here.”

Hillary Sillitto, along with fellow co-authors, Ian and Dorothy Godden, spent 18 months researching how Scotland’s fortunes might evolve during the next five decades.

He said: “Think how much change we have all lived through since 1970. Yet, how much more change will today’s school leavers see by 2070, when they might be joining a u3a?

“We have tracked six big emerging trends.  We then imagined what has to happen to make Scotland a country we’d be proud to bequeath to our own grandchildren.”
