STVInclusion

STV has appointed Femi Otitoju to the newly-created position of Diversity and Inclusion advisor.

Effective immediately and reporting to chief executive, Simon Pitts, Femi will help shape, accelerate and support the delivery of STV’s wide-reaching inclusion strategy. This role will touch on all areas of STV’s business, providing training, guidance and new insight to STV’s people, its Diversity & Inclusion Committee and network of peer groups, which are empowered with effecting positive change across
the organisation.

A diversity and inclusion specialist, Femi will be engaged in the role through Challenge Consultancy which she founded 30 years ago.

Femi has an extensive track record of delivering inclusion strategies and training across private, public and voluntary sectors and is a key-note speaker on equality and diversity issues. She has worked with some of the UK’s biggest brands, including L’Oréal, The Financial Times, BBC and Scottish Parliament, as well as national and global NGOs such as Shelter, Unicef and Amnesty International.

With an initial focus on company-wide training, Femi will also work closely with production teams to increase representation both on screen and behind the camera and will help address any areas of under-representation.

STV is committed to using its privileged position as broadcaster, producer and employer to create a more inclusive culture. Last year, STV set out a comprehensive action plan to more than double the number of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic colleagues at STV by 2023, improve on-screen representation in the programmes STV makes for itself and others, and ring-fence £1m from the STV Growth Fund for
advertising campaigns championing diversity.

Femi Otitoju said: “I am delighted to be working with STV to support them in building on the work they have already begun in this crucial area. Our highly-experienced people at Challenge will work in collaboration with STV to develop greater inclusion in staffing and content.”

STV’s chief executive, Simon Pitts said: “Femi is an inspirational force who has been instrumental in driving positive change across sectors and brings a wealth of experience to her role as our Diversity and Inclusion advisor.

“As a company, we have been making progress on diversity and set ourselves clear targets, but we can and must go faster. We look forward to working closely with Femi to increase equality of opportunity both within STV and across the TV industry.”
