STV Studios today announces that BBC Scotland has commissioned a third series of one of the channel’s most successful series, Inside Central Station.

STV Studios will deliver 6 x 60″ episodes of Inside Central Station 3 for broadcast in spring 2021. The series highlights passenger tales and revisits the familiar faces on the concourse and behind the scenes at one of Britain’s busiest train stations, Glasgow Central Station, as they battle to get the country back on track following the challenging events of the past year.

This age-old institution is responding and adapting like never before, with the team demonstrating incredible dynamism and resilience against a backdrop of unprecedented change as an industry. At a time when staying connected is more important than ever, this series is a celebration of the community heroes who have kept Scotland running.

Series two of Inside Central Station was a hit for BBC Scotland, proving to be one of their most popular series and reaching 700,000 Scots this year, to date.

The commissioning editor for BBC Scotland is David Harron. The executive producer for STV Studios is Rosy Marshall-McCrae.

David Harron, commissioning editor Factual at BBC Scotland, said: “Inside Central Station has been one of the most popular programmes on the BBC Scotland channel. The stories and characters from the station have really resonated with our audience and I’m delighted that we’re commissioning another series.”

Craig Hunter, creative director, Factual, at STV Studios, said: “Central station is more than just a train station, for many it’s an essential lifeline to get the country back up and running – providing a much-needed service for people and businesses all over the Central Belt and beyond. This third series follows our favourite characters during the most challenging of times.”
