BBC ALBA’s regular festival presenters, Fiona Mackenzie and Niall Iain MacDonald, will recreate the vibe of the Belladrum music festival from the comfort of Fiona’s garden – to bring highlights from a virtual version of the event into viewers living rooms.
Music and festival-themed entertainment show, ‘Belladrum 2020: Air Chuairt’, will showcase a mix of new performance and archive music with a special programme earlier in the evening looking at what makes the Belladrum festival so special.
There will be a mix of classic archive and new performances from previous headliners and emerging talent, with recordings of Kim Carnie, Innis Whyte, Charlie Stewart, Rachel Sermanni, Anna Massie and Mairearad Green plus Edwyn Collins, Julie Fowlis and Éamon Doorley, Lauren MacColl and Ewan MacPherson and top headliners from the Belladrum Festival over the years.
The ever popular KT Tunstall gives a special exclusive performance from her home in LA and joins Julie Fowlis for a duet of ‘Heal Over’.
There’s also a performance from well-loved fiddle player, Duncan Chisholm, accompanied by Donald Shaw. Duncan has been playing a tune every day for almost 130 days during lockdown.
Other features include Danny MacAskill, street trials cyclist from the Isle of Skye, who does some daredevil stunts on the Belladrum Estate and a there’s a special socially-distanced rendition of the Sister Sledge classic, ‘We Are Family’, by the Highland Voices Choir.
Margaret Cameron, channel editor at MG ALBA, said: “When we knew we weren’t going to be able to broadcast live from music festivals and gigs, we moved fast to think of creative ways to continue to bring festival fun and music to our audience.
“We wanted to create music programmes that people can watch from the comfort of their own homes while still maintaining that sense of community and shared experience that you get from attending live events.”
