CHANGE is coming. How should Scotland’s rural communities, businesses, organisations and people respond?
Members of the media are invited to attend the Scottish Rural Action Conference, 26th – 27th February 2020 at New Lanark Mill Hotel, to explore the challenges and opportunities facing rural Scotland during this period of change.
Scottish Rural Action has been tasked by the Scottish Government with starting a ‘rural movement’ that will make sure the voice of rural Scotland is heard. This conference is the starting point of creating that rural movement.
Programme highlights:
Wednesday 26th February 2.25pm – 3.45pm
- Speakers – Introduced by Vanessa Halhead, acting chair of Scottish Rural Action
- Welcome to Lanarkshire from Kenny Lean, South Lanarkshire Council
- Robin McAlpine of Common Weal on the Green New Deal
- Niall McShannon, managing director of CCI Ltd (Clydesdale Community Initiative) talking about why he started a social enterprise, who they do it for and why they bought a farm.
Thursday 27th February 9.15am – 11am:
- Speakers – Introduced by Vanessa Halhead, acting chair of Scottish Rural Action
- Address from Fergus Ewing MSP, Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy
- Katherine Trebeck, Wellbeing Alliance on Rural Economy and Inclusive Growth

Photos and interviews: Interviews and photos with speakers can be arranged by request. A press photographer will be in attendance Wednesday 26th in the afternoon and photos from this session can be circulated on Friday 28th, or earlier by request.
