VISITORS are invited to explore new frontiers at Dynamic Earth this summer, voyaging from the bottom of the ocean, to the moon and back, with a variety of fun-filled experiences and activities.
From 29 June to 26 August, visitors to the Edinburgh attraction can have a whale of a time with a whole host of special activities aimed at raising awareness of the importance of our oceans; alongside ongoing celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landings.
As part of the Atlantic Adventures activities, youngsters can play with real and virtual underwater robots (ROVs) and sample as many deep sea vents as possible in the ROV Simulator game. Budding engineers are invited to have a go at designing and building their very own deep sea ROV using Lego or to get creative with augmented reality colouring sheets.
Families can also find out how scientists are working to protect a changing ocean, try their hand at collecting coral from the sea floor and even test their balance while carrying out watery experiments on a wobbly research ship!
If the world is not enough, a special weekend of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landings will take place from 19 to 22 July. From Friday to Monday, space explorers can watch explosive rocket launches, zoom across the lunar surface on a VR moon buggy and even create their own astronaut mission patch badge to take home.
Visitors can then top off all the excitement by grabbing drinks and popcorn and heading to Dynamic Earth’s renowned ShowDome cinema to watch the moon landings in spectacular 360⁰ with brand new movie CAPCOM GO! Showing in the ShowDome all summer, this is an immersive experience like no other, allowing viewers to see the moon landing footage from a whole new perspective.
From July, the attraction is also launching a brand new augmented reality quiz, adding a new dimension to the tour. With a novice and expert version of the quiz available, visitors of all ages are invited to embark on a special mission; answering questions at six stations throughout the galleries in a bid to complete the quiz and make it to the top of the leader board. Also available in French, German, Polish and Italian, the quiz tests knowledge and observation skills, and finishes with a photo point and certificate for those who manage to complete their mission.

This year, our focus is on telling the fascinating story of the deep Atlantic ocean, while celebrating half a century since the incredible moment Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first set foot on the moon.
“These new elements to our story are a fantastic way to help people further understand and marvel at our amazing world. From exploring the sea bed with robots to learning about spaceflight, there is truly something for the whole family to enjoy.”
In addition to the summer programme of activities, regular Dynamic Earth features include the ever-popular real iceberg, a bone-shaking earthquake and the Deep Time Machine which takes visitors billions of years back in time.
The summer activities will run from 29 June until 26 August. All daytime events are included with admission to Dynamic Earth and are free for Explorer Pass holders.
