STRANRAER SkiffieWorlds 2019 is the coastal rowing world championship for a class of boat invented in Scotland ten years ago, that has now gone global.
Rowing teams from around the world will gather in south-west Scotland next week from 7-13th July for the biggest-ever regatta of St Ayles skiffs.
There are a number of photo and interview opportunities during SkiffieWorlds; some key dates follow.
Location: Loch Ryan Shoreline, Stranraer
Key dates:
Sunday 7th July: 4.30pm Opening ceremony, including mass row-in and pipe band escort;
Monday 8th July: World championship coastal rowing commences. 12noon Arrival of HRH The Princess Royal who will start a race;
Tuesday 9th July: ‘Daft Duck Day’, a light-hearted theme to the racing; and
Saturday 13th July: World Championship finals day. 5.30pm medal presentation.

Highlights: Competing team gazebos and boats lined up along the shoreline. Shoreside festival including young people and traders. Racing and big screen coverage.
SkiffieWords 2019: Community boat building is a fundamental part of St Ayles skiff racing, and every participating team will have a story about their boat. In doing so, the sport brings coastal communities together and teaches skills.
