STV will air a new documentary strand designed to take an in-depth look at aspects of contemporary Scottish life.
The first in the series Scotland Stories: Finding a Fix airs on Tuesday 21st May at 8.30pm and examines the toll taken by drugs in the city of Dundee.
Speaking to an emotional father of three whose wife was brutally murdered in a row over drugs, and the bereft mother of a heroin-addicted daughter, viewers will hear some of the personal stories behind the drugs epidemic. But there is hope too, in the form of reformed addict, Sharon, who is a light in the lives of others blighted by addiction.
The programme weaves a path through the city’s drugs maze as work concludes on the Dundee drugs commission, whose findings will be announced in the days after transmission.
The commission was established to help reduce the number of drug deaths in the city.
STV News executive producer, Donald John MacDonald, said: “Scotland Stories: Finding a Fix is a gritty look at a very complex problem blighting Scotland’s towns and cities. We meet people who have been directly affected, but also explore potential solutions to the drugs epidemic in advance of the publication of the commission report. We hope viewers will learn more about a challenging topic through the eyes of those experiencing it.”
Scotland Stories reflects STV’s commitment to be Scotland’s home of news and entertainment and is produced by STV News.
The programme was commissioned by director of Programme Strategy & Marketing, Stephen O’Donnell.
Stephen said: “STV News is a trusted voice for news that affects our audience. Scotland Stories will provide an opportunity for our news team to dig deeper and examine some of the issues at the heart of Scottish life. This strand will provide more time to tell these stories in a meaningful way.”
Scotland Stories: Finding a Fix airs on STV on Tuesday 21st May at 8.30pm.
