ALL or Nothing Aerial Dance Theatre and Room 2 Manoeuvre, two of Scotland’s most prolific companies working in the world of physical performance, are looking for young people in P4 to P7 and S1 to S6, based in and around Falkirk, Grangemouth, Stirling and Dunblane, to take part in a week of aerial and movement skills workshops [in two separate groups] at Grangemouth Town Hall between 08 and 12 April 2019.
The students, who require no previous experience, will be working towards a short piece they will create together and perform at FTH (Falkirk Town Hall) Theatre on 27 April in front of an audience.
The intensive week of workshops is being run in conjunction with All or Nothing and Room 2 Manoeuvre’s new production, Heroes, a humorous new show for all the family, featuring a stunning fusion of breathtaking aerial acrobatics, dance theatre, contemporary circus and visceral choreography, that will will be performed at FTH Theatre on 27 April at 19.30.
It delves deep into the worlds of idols and idolisation, celebrity and celebrity culture and heroes and superheroes; investigating what characterises a celebrity, who society’s hidden heroes really are and why we are compelled to idolise them.

The P4 to P7 workshops will run from 11.00 to 13.00 and will cost £70 for the five days. The S1 to S6 workshops will run from 14.00 to 17.00 at a cost of £100. Jen Paterson, artistic director of All or Nothing Aerial Dance Theatre, said: “Our fun but intensive workshops will definitely keep the kids flying high in the Easter holidays! They are being run in association with Falkirk Community Trust and are based around the themes of our new touring show, Heroes – celebrity culture, idols, superheroes and real heroes.
“Our professional and experienced team of tutors and performers from All or Nothing and Room 2 Manoeuvre will be working with the students as they take to the air, learning the basic moves and tricks on aerial equipment.
“This will be combined with physical theatre movement skills and techniques on the ground.
“Over the week, the young people will work towards creating a short performance piece, developed from their own ideas and the flying and physical performance skills they have learnt. As a group, they will perform their piece in front of a live audience at Falkirk Town Hall Theatre at the end of April before we perform Heroes.
“We are keen for young people in P4 to P7 to sign up for our morning group and S1 to S6 for our afternoon group. No superhero flying experience is necessary for those who want to get involved!”
All or Nothing and Room 2 Manoeuvre’s touring show, Heroes, is the light-hearted journey of two performers, Tony Mills and Beverley Grant, as they navigate their way through the pretty unforgiving world of celebrity culture.
Asking some profound universal questions with humour, straight talking and lots of graceful, intense and symbolic aerial and circus movement, the performers examine what it really means to be labelled a celebrity, why some will stop at nothing to achieve it; and the process of being thrust into the spotlight and the dramatic and ruthless fall from grace that often results.
The Heroes tour has been made possible with funding from Creative Scotland and support from The Work Room, The Brunton Theatre, Platform and Irish Aerial Creation Centre.

All or Nothing Aerial Dance Theatre
All or Nothing are one of Scotland’s leading aerial dance companies, creating, performing, teaching and pioneering aerial arts in Scotland since 2006. Based in Edinburgh, they blend breathtaking aerial acrobatics with dance, theatre and contemporary circus.
The company began touring Scotland in 2010/11 with Uncharted Waters, a co-production with StrangeBird Zirkus.
In recent years, All or Nothing has attained new heights in their work, creating Sprawl, a dance theatre duet for all ages, Three’s a Crowd, an ambitious and exciting piece for six performers, as well as their stunning crane show commission for SO Festival, What A Picture!
They flew through the trees in the outdoor sound and light show, Enchanted Forest, and partnered on two Commonwealth projects; White Gold in the historic sugar sheds in Greenock, and Cryptic’s night time nautical extravaganza, Sound to Sea, in which they danced down the roof of Glasgow’s iconic Science Centre.
In the past 18 months, they have been flying from the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle as part of Freedom on the Tyne, dancing on the side of buildings on Princes Street for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Parties, spinning to the tunes of the Grit Orchestra for Celtic Connections spectacular Bothy Culture and Beyond, premiering work at Edinburgh’s newest festival, Hidden Door and creating aerial magic at Archerfield’s Christmas Fairy Trail
Teaching, training and participation are vital to the company’s work and they run classes for all ages and abilities throughout the year, as well as their aerial tasters project Watch, Fly, Come, Try and one-off professional programmes such as Flying High, upskilling dancers to perform aerial harness. They have also worked in partnership with festivals and arts organisations such as Luminate, Scotland’s festival of creative ageing, and The Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock, to deliver longer-term engagement projects designed specifically for diverse audiences and participants, and constantly challenging assumptions about who can do aerial.
In October 2018, All or Nothing combined their expertise in high quality participatory work, with their artistic and spectacular aerial skills for Paisley’s Halloween celebrations.
This included Flying Witches on a crane and 50 young people performing and hanging from the Town Hall.
Room 2 Manoeuvre
Room 2 Manoeuvre is an Edinburgh-based dance company, resident at The Brunton and founded by artistic director, Tony Mills, in 2007. The company aims to produce high quality work that will entertain and challenge audiences. Often thematic in nature, the work is characterised with touches of humour, slick production and visceral choreography.
With a foundation in hip hop dance technique, Room 2 Manoeuvre firmly crosses into contemporary dance and physical theatre genres, as the company seeks new forms of expression highlighted by an original movement vocabulary.
The company has been a recipient of several grants from the national arts body, Creative Scotland, and has gone on to successfully present work around the UK, Europe, Asia and South America. Off the stage, Room 2 Manoeuvre is concerned with delivering dance education to both community and professional organisations through the company itself, partnerships and international initiatives. The company is also involved in the production and programming for live theatre events within Scotland.
Beverley Grant
Beverley trained as a professional dancer at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance 2009-2012, since graduating she has performed with multiple dance companies and has trained as an aerialist.
Beverley was awarded a BBC Performing Arts Fellowship for 2015, to further her practice and develop as a choreographer.
