5 News has established its first-ever team dedicated to covering news in Scotland, it was announced today.

The bureau consists of reporter, Alan Jenkins (pictured), and multi-skilled camera operator, David Boyle, and they will cover stories across Scotland.

Editor of 5 News, Cait FitzSimons, said: “Alan and David’s enthusiasm and experience will be a brilliant addition to 5 News.

“When I became editor last year, one of my key aims was to increase the amount of reporting we did across the whole of the UK. Our new Scotland team will have a daily impact on our programmes, uncovering distinctive stories and under-represented voices.”

Reporter, Alan Jenkins, added: “I’m delighted to be joining 5 News and a team I’ve long admired for the way they put people at the centre of the stories they cover. Becoming 5 News’ first Scotland-based reporter is a huge privilege and a fantastic opportunity to bring original stories to light.”

Camera operator, David Boyle, said: “I’m really honoured to be joining the 5 News team at such an incredibly busy and exciting time in UK News. Scotland has lots to offer, great stories, fun people and we certainly don’t mind airing our opinions. I can’t wait to get started and share the issues that matter from in and around Scotland.”

Alan Jenkins began his career as a broadcast journalist eight years ago as an intern at CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta.

Following a degree in Broadcast Journalism, he joined STV, reporting on stories across Scotland – including the Glasgow bin lorry crash and the Scottish independence referendum.

During this time, he was recognised with a Journalist of the Year nomination at the Scottish LGBTI Awards. In 2016, he joined ITV Border, working as a political reporter and covering the impact of the Brexit vote in the south of Scotland and the 2017 snap election.

David Boyle has worked in broadcasting for the past 12 years working on: documentaries; factual entertainment; news and current affairs and producing, filming and editing programmes for the BBC, STV and Channel 4.

He spent three years making topical and current affairs films for The One Show and most recently produced and directed a climate change documentary for STV and worked on the launch of BBC Scotland’s new flagship Nine O’Clock news programme.
