SCOTTISH Baker of the Year 2018/9, John Gall – of Kilmarnock-based Brownings the Bakers – played host this week to couture cake queen, Mich Turner MBE, to mark the launch of the 2019 search for the Scottish Baker of the Year.
Pupils from Kilmarnock-based Onthank and Galston Primary Schools joined Nicola Gall and Wendy Short in a sticky challenge to jam and ice Empire Biscuits, apply fondant to Strawberry Tarts – using a handmade piping bag – and apply cream filling to Cream Yum Yums and Donuts.
And the ‘icing on the cake’, the Mich Turner technical challenge, was to buttercream a cupcake to her exacting standards!
Bakery customers can vote now for their local baker.Voting forms are available from all participating bakeries or shoppers can vote online by logging on to www.scottishbakers.org/vote2019 – voting automatically enters you into a draw to win one of seven Apple Watches.
