Media release: STV Growth Fund celebrates success with St Andrew’s Day awards

TO celebrate Scottish entrepreneurship this St Andrew’s Day, STV has welcomed two award-winning businesses to receive membership of the STV Growth Fund – each benefitting from £50,000 of free marketing airtime and support from STV.

At last week’s inaugural Summit Entrepreneurship Awards, staged by STV and Entrepreneurial Scotland, winners across seven categories from a range of backgrounds and sectors received prestigious awards for their entrepreneurial talent.

STV joined an expert judging panel reviewing more than 250 nominations to determine the finalists in each of the seven categories.

Rising Star of the Year, Michael Corrigan, managing director of Trtl and Social Entrepreneur of the Year, Celia Hodson, pictured, founder of Hey Girls have both been offered £50,000 by the STV Growth Fund to support them as they grow and scale their businesses.

STV Growth Fund membership will provide both Trtl and Hey Girls with access to STV’s airtime marketing space and a contribution towards the cost of producing an on-screen advertisement.

Harnessing STV’s wealth of experience in creative brand development and consumer insight, membership of the STV Growth Fund will also provide campaign optimisation and analysis to ensure both organisations can maximise their advertising effectiveness.

STV commercial director, Peter Reilly, said: “We are proud to work with inspiring Scottish entrepreneurs every day – people who have established, built and continue to grow thriving businesses for Scotland.  We were really impressed with all of the winners, but these two organisations stood out in terms of what they can achieve with extra support at this stage to engage a consumer audience in their business journey.”

Hey Girls is a social enterprise aiming to tackle period poverty by giving a girl or woman one pack of products for every pack bought.

Founder, Celia Hodson, said: “We were delighted to win the prize for Social Entrepreneur of the Year at Summit, and our invitation to join the STV Growth Fund really has made this a very exciting week for Hey Girls. With this fantastic support from STV, we will be able to really boost our brand and grow our social business. This will widen our social impact and build greater awareness of our aims to eradicate period poverty.”

Travel retail brand, Trtl, have developed a range of innovative travel pillows.

Michael Corrigan, managing director, said: “What a fantastic opportunity!  We are all really excited about the support offered by the STV Growth Fund to help us reach new customers and continue to grow the business.”

The STV Growth Fund was established to support the business community in Scotland, making £5 million available through airtime marketing space to connect businesses with consumers earlier in their business journey.

Since launch earlier this year, the STV Growth Fund now has over 60 members who are benefitting from support as part of STV’s commitment to drive the Scottish economy.
