SCOTTISH Swimming is delighted to announce the appointment of Olympian, Commonwealth and World swimming medalist, Caitlin McClatchey; The Royal & Ancient’s assistant director of Golf Development, Jackie Davidson; and former Government Minister, Andrew Dunlop, to its board of directors.

McClatchey, Davidson and Dunlop will bring to swimming a significant mix of knowledge, leadership and influence including a strong understanding of the role sport plays in building a stronger society, helping to build good health, nurturing talent and celebrating success in communities across Scotland.

Since her retirement from competitive swimming in 2015, Caitlin McClatchey has worked tirelessly as an athlete mentor for Dame Kelly Homes’ Trust and Youth Sport Trust, athlete ambassador for the Duty of Care for Elite Athletes Focus Group at the Houses of Parliament and currently as athlete representation network manager at the British Athletes Commission.

The triple Olympian (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012), 5xworld medalist and double Commonwealth Games champion (Melbourne 2006) has developed important relationships with key stakeholders from UK Sport, UK Anti-Doping, British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association to National Governing Bodies to ensure the specific performance needs of elite athletes are heard and understood.

Speaking of her appointment, McClatchey said: “Scottish Swimming supported me for over 15 years, through the talent pathway and beyond. I am delighted to have the opportunity to make a positive and lasting impact on swimming in Scotland.”

Jackie Davidson has a strong grounding in sport through her work in golf development at The R&A and Scottish Golf, and as former chief executive officer of the Scottish Cyclists Union. As well as developing strategic relationships and partnerships she has extensive experience in growing and maintaining female participation in sport as well as supporting national federations in developing sport from grass roots to performance

Davidson will step down next year from the board of Commonwealth Games Scotland after 11 years, where she has served on the selection committee for the Delhi, Glasgow and Gold Coast Games. Her experience in building strong partnerships at local, national and international level helped the successful delivery of a home Games in 2014.

Davidson said of her appointment: “I’ve worked in sport for the majority of my career and I look forward to supporting Scottish Swimming in developing and achieving their further ambitions going forward.”

As a former UK Minister for Scotland and for Northern Ireland and founder of a highly-successful strategic communications and public affairs consultancy, Andrew Dunlop will provide an invaluable insight to and knowledge of business strategy, public policy and communications.

Since stepping down from Government duties in 2017, he has continued to pursue a strong interest in Scotland’s prosperity and well-being as a board member of the Scottish Council for Development & Industry, a member of the advisory board of the Scottish Policy Foundation as well as Chair of the Scottish Business Taskforce and the Scottish Future Growth Council.

A keen, active open water swimmer, Dunlop’s long-standing interest in swimming has seen him as chair of Atlantis Horsham Swimming Club, where he was instrumental in developing the club through negotiating for additional pool time, securing sponsorship and growing its membership. This role led him to serve on both the Sussex County and South East Region Amateur Swimming Association management committees.

Speaking of his appointment, Dunlop said: “Swimming is a fantastic mass participation sport at which Scotland excels.  I’m delighted to be joining a high-performing team and look forward to helping it build further on its already strong track record of success.”

Scottish Swimming’s chair, Graeme Marchbank, commented: “Caitlin, Jackie and Andrew’s appointments are a welcome addition to our Board and will further strengthen the experience and skill of the group tasked with guiding Scottish Swimming’s strategic direction.”

Dunlop, Davidson and McClatchey will join the board with immediate effect.
