NOMINATIONS for sportMoray’s recognition awards are now open.
The event, now in its 19th year, takes place on Monday 29 October and Diageo have been confirmed as the main sponsor for the second year running.
The awards will recognise a number of talented athletes and teams as well as dedicated coaches and volunteers from across the area.
The 14 categories include Local Service to Sport, Junior Sports Athlete, Veteran Sports Athlete, Intermediate Team, Senior Team, Coach, Club Level, Community Engagement, School Sport Volunteer, Special Achievement, Intermediate Sportsman, Intermediate Sportswoman, Senior Sports Athlete and Sports Personality of the Year.
Sean Pritchard, Diageo’s Supply Operations Manager, said the company is delighted to be sponsoring the Diageo sportMoray Recognition Awards again this year.
“The evening is a great spectacle of local sporting stars that have achieved excellence in their chosen sport, or dedicated countless years at a local club through a coaching, officiating, committee or supporting role.”
Moray Council’s Sports Development and Active Schools Manager, Kim Paterson, said Moray is developing a reputation as a sporting hotbed with athletes excelling across a wide range of disciplines.
“Over and above this the number of coaches and volunteers that dedicate years of their own time to develop our local athletes and teams to reach their full potential is inspiring.
“It’s also heartening to receive the ongoing support of many local businesses which help make these awards happen: The Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils, Moray Trophies Ltd, Springfield Properties PLC, The Northern Scot, Gordon and MacPhail, NHS Grampian, Active Schools, Elgin Rotary Club, Moray College, Moray Council and Forsyths.”
Nominations are open until 28 September and can be submitted online via the sportMoray website: sportinmoray.co.uk/mcsh/sport-moray/recognition-awards, or email educationandsocialcare@moray.gov.uk for a form to be sent.
