SCOTLAND-based photographers and several Scottish hotels and food producers were featured among the finalists for the 2018 Pink Lady Food Photography competition. As one of the world’s leading celebrations of food photography and food-related film, the competition is open to professional and amateur photographers of all ages.
The awards celebrate the very best in food photography and film from around the world with over 8,000 entries to be judged this year by the international judging panel. The 2018 finalists were invited to a magnificent Champagne Taittinger reception at London’s Mall Galleries where the winners were announced in front of an audience of 500 guest. The evening was hosted by legendary TV presenter and chef, Prue Leith.
A stunning short entitled For the Love of Food, about food and cooking produced on the Isle of Skye and filmed by With Love Project, seized this year’s crown for unearthed Food Film Shorts – sponsored by Foodism, acknowledged to be London’s largest food and drink magazine. Presented and sensitively-narrated by Michael Smith, chef at the Loch Bay Restaurant on Skye, it featured local suppliers of hand-dived scallops, local sea salt, fresh herbs and salads.
In addition to the winning film, a clever, brilliant photograph, ‘Candyfloss Lady’, taken by Skye-based photographer, Annice MacLeod, was an acclaimed finalist in the Marks & Spencer Food Adventures category.
Islay-based photographer, Mark Unsworth, reached the final three of the Errazuriz Wine Photographer of the Year sub-category with his evocative black and white image ‘Religious Vines’.
Lastly, but by no means least, a wonderful, beautifully-lit shot of delicious pies from top chef Tony Singh, entitled ‘Chicken Tikka Pies’, and taken by UK based photographer, Gareth Morgans, was celebrated in the Marks & Spencer Food Portraiture category.
A public exhibition of the finalist photographs and video clips was held at the Mall galleries. The exhibition will now go around the world to
