Media release: Kilties spread kindness with treat from Tunnock’s

Kiltwalk Random Acts of Kindness Event 2

KIND-hearted Kilties took to Glasgow’s Buchanan Street to mark Random Acts of Kindness Day (17 February) by handing out more than 500 Tunnock’s teacakes to passers-by.

In a bid to encourage walkers to either take part in the Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk, or to support by signing-up to volunteer, Kilties gifted Scotland’s most iconic snack to 550 Glaswegians in under one hour on the city’s ‘Style Mile’.

Known fondly as ‘Kilties’, the network of Kiltwalk volunteers ensure the smooth-running of each event, cheering on walkers along the route and providing motivation from start to finish.

The Glasgow Kiltwalk kicks-off the 2018 walks on Sunday 29 April. The Mighty Stride begins at Glasgow Green, ending 23-miles away in Balloch. With the 14-mile Big Stroll and the six-mile Wee Wander there is a walk for everyone.

This is followed by Aberdeen on 3 June, St Andrews to Dundee on 19 August and Edinburgh on 16 September. Each walk has three distances to choose from to suit walkers of all ages and abilities.

Paul Cooney, chief executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk, said: “Thank you to Tunnock’s for providing the teacakes and to our Kilties. Our volunteers are a brilliant bunch for coming together to spread cheer in Glasgow to mark Random Acts of Kindness Day. We hope this small gesture helps to get people motivated to sign up to walk or volunteer at one of the four Kiltwalks taking place across Scotland this year.

“Whatever your age, whatever your ability we want to see as many people as possible take part this year as either a Kiltie or a Kiltwalker to make the events bigger and better than ever, raising even more money for charity.”

Last year, more than 14,000 Scots took part in the Kiltwalk helping to raise over £2.6 million for over 780 charities across Scotland. Thanks to the extra 40% from The Hunter Foundation, for every £100 raised by a walker, your chosen charity receives £140.
