LAUNCHED at the end of 2016, the Living in Uddingston community website has celebrated its first anniversary, by launching a news page.
This volunteer-run platform was created to promote the Lanarkshire town of Uddingston as a place to live and work, but it is increasingly reporting – and occasionally breaking – local news stories.
Begins a spokesperson: “Living in Uddingston created a news page in response to a lack of Uddingston-specific stories in other print and online media. In recent months, it has carried news of residential developments selling their final units, revisions to the Google Earth satellite views of Uddingston, and the latest in a series of national awards received by the local Uddingston Pride community group. Since 2000, Uddingston has won twenty separate awards from judging panels at Britain in Bloom and Beautiful Scotland, including gold at the 2017 Britain in Bloom Awards last October.”
The team behind Living in Uddingston are now encouraging PR agencies and media outlets across Scotland to supply them directly with press releases and news stories. This will ensure Living in Uddingston can provide local residents and interested parties around the UK with a comprehensive news service. Stories will be considered about anything happening within Uddingston’s boundaries or relating to its residents, from planning applications to public events.
“For anyone unfamiliar with Uddingston, this commuter-belt town near Glasgow is split between North and South Lanarkshire Councils. Uddingston was a key beneficiary of the recent £500 million M74/M74/M8 motorway upgrade, with all three motorways passing through or beside the town. Uddingston has direct rail connections to Glasgow and Edinburgh, and according to a recent survey, it is one of only three towns in Scotland with no vacant retail units.”
News stories, press releases and other Uddingston-specific information can be sent to the Living in Uddingston team at hello@livinginuddingston.co.uk.
