THIS month, STV News and Women in Journalism Scotland will join forces to host training and networking event, A Stronger Voice for Women in the Media, in Dundee.

The event, which will be held in Malmaison Dundee on Tuesday 20th February, will provide advice and coaching for women journalists and industry experts on seizing media opportunities and making their voices heard across print, online and broadcast.

With input from Women in Journalism’s Jan Patience, STV deputy head of News Suzanne Lord, freelance writer and former DC Thomson editor Gayle Anderson, and Catriona MacPhee, assistant producer at STV News in Dundee, sessions will cover topics ranging from projection and live interview preparation to pitching ideas to commissioning editors and journalists and using social media to raise your profile.

Women in Journalism Scotland is a networking, campaigning and training organisation representing women in Scotland at every stage of their journalism careers, across print, broadcast, online and digital media and communications.

Jan Patience, of Women in Journalism Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be joining forces with STV to host this special event in Dundee to help women in the media find a stronger voice.

“WiJ Scotland is a relatively new organisation and its prime aim is to support women in the media by providing training and networking opportunities. As has been shown in the course of the recent debate over gender equality, the time has come for women in journalism to step up and speak out. The hands-on sessions being provided by seasoned professionals will help to put fresh voices out into the public domain.”

Suzanne Lord, deputy head of News at STV, said: “I am excited about STV News joining with Woman in Journalism to support this fantastic event. It is important that we hear from women experts as a range of voices brings diversity and richness to our content.”

If you are a woman working in journalism in Scotland and would like to attend the event, visit Eventbrite for details and tickets.
