Media release: Three Scottish Sun music stations go live on Monday

PublicRelationsToUse

THREE new digital music radio stations for Scotland will broadcast for the first time on Monday (1 January 2018) under The Scottish Sun brand.

Wireless Group and News Scotland are launching the new DAB and online stations with a comprehensive marketing campaign including television, outdoor, print, online and social adverts – declaring, ‘Scotland’s new radio stations are born’.

The three stations are each targeted at a different audience demographic with listeners able to choose from Scottish Sun Hits, featuring back-to-back chart hits, Scottish Sun 80s, focusing exclusively on tracks from the 1980s, and Scottish Sun Greatest Hits, which will feature classic hits from the 1970s onwards.

Their launch follows the successful trials of other Scottish Sun pop-up stations in the past year, with The Scottish Summer Sun and The Scottish Sun Xmas Radio proving popular with listeners and advertisers alike. The Christmas station made a return last month, broadcasting festive hits from 17 November until earlier this week.

An extensive campaign of promotional activity will support the stations’ launch on Monday, with a substantial spend being invested in outdoor advertising at premium sites in Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as on public transport vehicles.

A television advertising campaign will run from Saturday 6 January. The stations will also be promoted prominently in The Scottish Sun and its Sunday sister title – which have a combined print readership of 581,000 – and on thescottishsun.co.uk. The Scottish Sun has a monthly combined reach of 2.6 million adults*.

The Scottish Sun editor, Alan Muir, said: “Monday brings not only a new year but three new radio stations designed to appeal to a broad range of listeners in Scotland.

“People tuning in can expect a generous helping of The Scottish Sun’s renowned fun factor alongside the best feel-good music from the past few decades and the cream of the current pop crop. 2018 is set to be a great year for new radio in Scotland. ”

Richard Bogie, general manager of News Scotland, publishers of The Scottish Sun, said: “We’ve invested heavily in these new stations and in the marketing campaign that will launch them over the next few weeks.

“News Scotland is the fastest growing media brand in Scotland, boasting market leading newspaper titles and now with a real desire to boost our radio presence supported by our colleagues at Wireless Group.

“These new Scottish Sun stations will be key to that strategy during the course of 2018 and beyond, growing our reach and creating excellent opportunities for advertisers and commercial partners.”
