POLICY issues key to the development of business in rural Scotland have been discussed at an event for land managers, organised by Scottish Land & Estates.
Jointly sponsored by Savills and Brodies, the Land Managers’ Training Day welcomed more than 60 attendees at the sold-out event at Perth Racecourse.
The morning session including presentations on key policy areas affecting land-based businesses, including land reform, rural planning, agricultural holdings and new legislation for residential landlords that is soon to take effect.
Afternoon workshops, which included participation from the Scottish Government and Historic Environment Scotland, covered subjects such as energy efficiency in traditional buildings, the Electronic Communications Code and renewable energy, allowing delegates to explore challenges and opportunities in more detail.
Sarah-Jane Laing, executive director at Scottish Land & Estates, said: “Policy and legislation affecting rural businesses is constantly evolving and it is vital that land managers are fully up to speed with the political and legislative landscape.
“We were pleased to welcome land managers from right across Scotland to the event and it is clear from lively discussions that there is a continued desire to improve business practice and explore opportunities for business growth.
