Media release: Motive Fabrication completes contracts worth six-figure sum

Motive

A LEADING North-east offshore services firm has completed fabrication contracts for major names in the oil and gas industry, totalling in excess of £250,000.

In the first project, Motive Offshore Group, which launched Motive Fabrication in Dundee in March 2017, manufactured several deck grillages and seafastenings which were used to support a large winch rental project and mobilised in Dundee Port onboard the client’s vessel.

Motive Offshore Group, which is based in Boyndie near Banff, has a total of 60 employees across its marine equipment manufacture, rental, spooling and fabrication divisions.

Motive Fabrication provides structural, quayside and vessel mobilisation for clients in the oil and gas industry. All work is certified to ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.

The second contract saw the firm construct several prototype transportation baskets for use in the subsea decommissioning markets for an Aberdeen-based client. The units are DNV 2.7-1 certified.

Specialising in all types of pipework suitable for both onshore and offshore working, the firm is currently busy with several other large contracts.

Motive Fabrication’s Dundee site, which boasts a deep water quayside facility, alongside a 12,000 sq ft workshop and 2,000 sq ft office block, can also cater for any fabrication requirements visiting vessels need whilst in port. The division has also diversified its services to cater for the fuel storage, petrochem and food and drink sectors.

Motive Group director, James Gregg, said: “Since launching the fabrication division earlier this year, we have continued to work on a number of projects with major names in the industry.

“Our Dundee base is conveniently based for both offshore and onshore working, and our skilled team can provide compliant  design and fabrication services for clients in the oil and gas, decommissioning, renewables, fuel storage and industrial marketplaces.

“We currently have a team of 12 skilled workers, and plans are in place to build on this to meet demands as our fabrication client base continues to grow.”

The Port of Dundee is continuing to attract a number of North Sea oil and gas businesses looking for more cost effective options for inspection, repair and maintenance of vessels and jack up and semisubmersible drilling rigs.

Owners, Forth Ports Limited, has invested £10million to extend the quay, develop a new, 25-acre yard, as well as a landing pad for a permanently installed 1,500 tonne crane to support decommissioning projects all within 300m of Motives new facility.

The investment is set to place the port at the forefront of the oil and gas decommissioning and offshore renewable sectors. Construction is well underway and expected to be completed by year end 2017.
