Media release: Fiddle club digs out tunes for Cardwell Garden Centre charity concert

Fiddlers Cardwell Garden MFG

THERE’S really only one tune a fiddle group will have been especially learning for their charity performances at a well-known garden centre – and that’s Flower of Scotland!

Members of the Clyde Coast Strathspey and Reel Society will be playing at Cardwell Garden Centre, near Gourock, on Saturday, between 1.30pm and 4pm in a bid to raise money for good causes.

Better known locally as the Clyde Coast Fiddlers, the group will entertain visitors with a selection of Scottish ceilidh tunes and are asking people to donate money for the Ardgowan Hospice, in Greenock and the society’s own fundraising efforts.

Fiddle group secretary, Judy Semple, from Inverkip, said: “We hope everyone comes along to Cardwell and enjoys our performances.

“Since we’re playing at a garden centre, we’ve been wracking our brains to come up with Scottish tunes that relate to flowers, or plants and Flower of Scotland seems to be the favourite.

“We’ll have an open fiddle case lying on the ground, so I hope people like us enough to want to donate to two good causes.”

Cardwell’s retail general manager, Paul Carmichael, said: “The Clyde Coast Fiddlers are ‘reely’ good at ceilidh melodies – if you’ll pardon the pun.

“We hope lots of people come waltzing in to Cardwell to hear them play and donate as much as they can.

“As well as Flower of Scotland, a few more apt tunes for their garden centre performances could be the Bluebell Polka, My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose, or even the Rowan Tree!”

The fiddle group, whose members come from Inverclyde and Ayrshire will also be at Cardwell on Sunday, August 27 between 11am and 1pm.
