Former artistic director of the Lyceum Theatre Company, Mark Thomson, writes and directs Snowflake for a new ensemble, The Network
A partnership between the Scottish Drama Training Network and Pleasance Theatre Trust to support emerging talent from across Scotland to work with leading theatre professionals
THE Scottish Drama Training Network (SDTN) in a new partnership with the Pleasance Theatre Trust has established The Network. An ensemble for graduates who have trained in Scotland, as they make their transition from full time training into the creative industries.
Leading Scottish theatre director, Mark Thomson, has written Snowflake for The Network, following a series of script development workshops led by Mark with final-year students.
For the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017 he directs Snowflake with a cast of eight actors, auditioned from this year’s final year performing arts cohort. Over 80 students took part in the auditions and recall held in April.
Speaking about the experience, Mark said: “There’s a kind of freedom for me in working with emerging talent: maybe something about them having no limits or self-imposed bounds to how they use their imaginations. In an age of ‘post truth’, the search for authenticity has never been more keen and perhaps that’s what we will find.”
Snowflake is a show about how to find connection in a world full of notifications and distractions. It follows Jax and her friends in the lead up to her 21st birthday.
Nothing is quite going to plan for Jax and she finds herself battling with reality in the absence of her mother; voice of mum is played by celebrated Scottish actor, Siobhan Redmond.
Snowflake is on at Pleasance Above from 5 – 28 August, find out more, here.
