In celebration of the multi-award-winning Natural History Unit turning 60, Sir David Attenborough will join Julian Hector, BBC Studios’ head of The Natural History Unit in conversation, as they discuss the range of programming the unit has produced, from landmark series, Planet Earth II and Blue Planet, to complex live event broadcasts such as Big Blue Live and Wild Alaska Live, as well as award-winning long running documentaries series Natural World and the iconic Spring/Autumn and Winterwatch.

Attenborough and Hector will also reveal the incredible production values, skills and specialist knowledge that The Natural History Unit cultivates, and the emerging technologies breaking new ground.
Sir David Attenborough said: “I’m delighted to be at the Edinburgh TV Festival to recall the history of what was the first Natural History Unit to be set up in the world and to celebrate some of its milestones.”
Julian Hector said: “I grew up with The Living World presented by Peter France on Radio 4 and was studying Zoology at University by the time Sir David Attenborough’s Life on Earth was first broadcast in 1979 on BBC One.
“The NHU has been part of my life ever since, and I look forward to sharing with the TV Festival all of the astonishing work that goes on behind the scenes to make these incredible series.”
Lisa Campbell, festival director, said: “Sir David Attenborough is a broadcasting legend, synonymous with the incredible programming made by The Natural History Unit, and someone whose wisdom and knowledge is enjoyed across generations.
