AN Elgin charity has organised a night of local comedy to fundraise for blind and deaf people in Moray.

North East Sensory Services (NESS) is hosting a stand-up comedy night on Saturday, 6 May, at the Grampian Hotel in Keith, to raise funds that will enable the charity to continue supporting its service users.

NESS – which has offices in Elgin, Aberdeen and Dundee – supports over 6,000 people in the North-east who have sight or hearing loss.

The charity helps those with a sensory impairment to overcome the practical and emotional effects of serious sight and/or hearing loss, as well as guiding them to achieve more independence.

The evening of comedy is open to over-18s only and will be hosted by Fraserburgh funnyman, Wray Thomson, who has been busy touring the Scottish comedy circuit over the past few years.

Wray’s amusing stories have won him many fans across the country, having performed stand-up for the likes of Breakneck Comedy, The Stand and Saint Lukes.

UK Pun Champion, Richard Pulsford, will also be joining Wray.

Richard will be performing the various types of hilarious one-liners, wordplay and gags that he is best known for on the night, before embarking on his 2017 tour across the UK and Europe.

Bruce Cruickshank, fundraising assistant at NESS Moray, said: “Whilst the comedy night is going to be full of laughs, the reality of living with a sensory impairment is not so humorous.

“One in five people over 75 are living with a visual impairment and more than 70 per cent of people over 70 have hearing loss, meaning that it is highly likely that the majority of the population will suffer from sight or hearing loss when they are older.

“NESS is the leading provider of sensory services for blind and deaf people in Scotland and it is only thanks to the generosity of the general public that we are able to continue supporting those with sensory loss in Moray. For that we are very grateful.

“We look forward to providing the audience with a side-splitting evening of entertainment, the comedians are very talented and it looks set to be an enjoyable night.”

Doors for the stand-up comedy night open at 7pm.

Tickets are priced at £10 per person and can be bought from the Grampian Hotel or by contacting Bruce Cruickshank on 03452 712 345 or bruce.cruickshank@nesensoryservices.org.
