Media Release: IPA announces Scotland Student Advertising Awards 2017 shortlist

THE IPA has revealed the shortlist for the 2017 IPA Scotland Student Advertising Awards.

Now in its second year, this year’s competition brief centred on promoting body confidence amongst Scottish youth and was endorsed by mental health charity, Penumbra.

The shortlist includes a team from Edinburgh College’s HND in Visual Communication, Hazel Pike and Beth Wilson; and teams from Edinburgh Napier University’s MSc Creative Advertising, Andrea Sarnataro and James Yates, Calum Greenhill and Silvia Cutrea, Joseph Woodcock and India Morrow, Lottie Grant and Helen Balls, Louise Cox and Elliott Parry.

There are also solo entries from Alicia Gonzalez from Edinburgh College’s Visual Communication and Ante Tisanova from Edinburgh Napier University’s MSc Creative Advertising.

Says Nigel Henderson, chief executive of mental health charity, Penumbra: “This has been a fantastic competition to be involved with.

“The quality of the entries was consistently high and it was very difficult to whittle it down to a shortlist of just eight concepts.

“Sadly, issues around negative self and body confidence are increasingly common amongst young people today, but all the entries we received prove we have the creativity and ability to tackle this issue positively.

“I would like to thank everyone for their entries and congratulate those who have been shortlisted.”

Says Brian Coane, IPA chair for Scotland: “We launched the IPA Scotland Student Advertising Awards in 2016 to strengthen the links between our agencies and the fantastic universities and colleges on our doorstep.

“With nearly double the entries this year we’re attracting more people to think about starting their careers in advertising in Scotland. Keeping these creative thinkers here is good for advertising and good for Scotland’s economy.”

The winner will be announced on the 11th May at the annual IPA Scotland Members’ Reception in Edinburgh and will receive a cash prize along with a paid internship within one of the Scottish agencies represented on the judging panel.*
