MANAGING director of So Television, Graham Stuart, has been appointed the Edinburgh International Television Festival’s executive chair.

Stuart co-founded So Television with Graham Norton in September 2000.  Since then he has continued to executive produce the multi-award winning Graham Norton franchise in the UK and US as well as develop many new projects for the company, which is now part of ITV Studios.

He won the Best Entertainment Programme BAFTA for So Graham Norton in 2001 and again for The Graham Norton Show in 2013.

He won the BAFTA for Best Comedy Entertainment Programme for The Graham Norton Show in 2015.

Stuart takes over from ITN Productions editorial director, Chris Shaw, after this year’s festival.

Shaw, who has held the position for the past three years, said: “Graham is not only a hugely successful and respected entertainment producer, he’s also a very popular individual with a deep knowledge and affection for the industry. He’ll be a brilliant champion for the TV festival.”

Graham Stuart said: “The Edinburgh International Television Festival has always played a major part in my career and the chance to shape it for a rapidly changing future is hugely exciting for me.

“I look forward to calling on the support of everyone in the industry to help Edinburgh continue as the best three days in the television year.”

Lisa Campbell, festival director, added: “I’m looking forward to completing the 2017 festival with Chris Shaw at the helm – one of the most talented, supportive and well-connected people I know.

“The TV festival and its charitable arm, the Talent Schemes, have benefited enormously from his commitment and he leaves it in fantastic shape for an equally talented and loyal friend of the festival, Graham Stuart.”

As a festival and a charity, the Edinburgh International Television Festival is committed to helping young people from all backgrounds gain access to the TV industry. It runs two young talent schemes: Ones to Watch and The Network.

Both schemes aim to ensure that the people working in television are as diverse as the audience watching it.
