ONE of the most packed and popular sessions at the Edinburgh Television Festival, the Leaders’ Debate is unique in bringing together the heads of the UK’s leading channels to discuss the industry’s most pressing issues.
In this, its third year, journalist, presenter and economist Evan Davis will preside over a new approach to the debate: one of high-level, Davos-style strategic insight, emphasising the joint challenges and opportunities which lie ahead.
BBC director of content, Charlotte Moore; ITV director of television Kevin Lygo; Channel 5 director of programmes Ben Frow; Channel 4 chief creative officer Jay Hunt; and director of programmes for Sky Entertainment in the UK and Ireland, Zai Bennett; will address questions including:
* How does the industry respond to the rise of digital and non-linear services?
* How does television stay meaningful for the younger generation and how can it better reflect the views of the nation post-Brexit?
* How do mainstream news organisations tackle the rise of ‘fake news’ and how do we ensure that British TV retains its world-leading creative reputation?
The decisions made by these leaders set the tone for the entire industry and this session is a rare opportunity to hear them come together to discuss their strategic priorities and how they will shape the future landscape of British TV.
The session will be produced by Adam Barker, executive editor, BBC2.
As a festival and a charity, the Edinburgh International Television Festival is committed to helping young people from all backgrounds gain access to the TV Industry. It runs two young talent schemes, Ones to Watch and The Network.
Both schemes aim to ensure that the people working in television are as diverse as the audience watching it.
