Media Release: London Scots charity welcomes Westminster funding for homelessness prevention in England

Shona Fleming, Borderline CEO

BORDERLINE, the charity for homeless Scots in London, has welcomed the announcement – here – by Local Government Minister, Marcus Jones, of £48 million of extra funding to help prevent and reduce homelessness in England.

Under the Homelessness Reduction Private Members’ Bill currently going through Parliament, local authorities will be required to help all eligible people – whether they are single or a family – for 56 days before they are threatened with homelessness.

Those who are already homeless will get support for a further 56 days to help them secure accommodation

Says Borderline CEO, Shona Fleming: “At a time when all homelessness charities are having to cope with increasing pressure on resources, as well as increasing numbers of clients, this is good news for those enduring homelessness in England.

“That includes the many Scots sleeping rough in London whom we are here to support and help move into secure accommodation.”
