GREATER Glasgow Hoteliers Association (GGHA) has become the city’s latest organisation to throw its weight behind the Social Bite ‘CEO Sleep Out’ initiative which takes place tonight (Thursday 15 December).
In his capacity as GGHA’s joint chair, Jamie Stevens, will join scores of other business leaders from across Scotland, to spend 12 hours sleeping rough in Edinburgh’s Charlotte Square.
Stevens has the support of the membership of the GGHA as well as his team at the Village Hotel in Glasgow, where he is a regional general manager for Scotland and is hoping to raise “a significant amount” for the Social Bite Village project, which requires some £500,000 to construct ten, purpose-built, eco houses in the Granton area of Edinburgh.
Stevens comments: “Homelessness is a sad fact of life in every major city up and down the country, and Scotland’s capital is no different.
“Josh Littlejohn and Social Bite are to be commended on this innovative campaign, which ultimately will enable around 20 residents to stay in the supervised village environment – with access to counselling, addiction therapy and budgeting advice – for up to a year before moving on to more permanent accommodation.
“I’m taking part in the Sleep Out representing both the Village Hotel and the wider GGHA membership, to underline our wholehearted support for this project.”
