ADULTS with epilepsy can access a free new service in Glasgow designed to improve their health and wellbeing.
As part of this pilot Epilepsy Wellbeing Service, Epilepsy Scotland is offering a be well package. It includes breathing and relaxation classes, a walking group and professional counselling.
Services manager, Kenny McKenna, explained: “We know that having epilepsy can affect a person’s emotions as well as their physical health.
“Feedback from our helpline service tells us that people can often feel overwhelmed by epilepsy and their confidence drops.
“We decided to create a range of free activities and classes to help individuals deal with the ongoing stress that living with this long-term condition can bring.
“People are expected to sign up for several activities to boost their sense of wellbeing. Over the 12 months of this pilot project, each participant will commit to attend a package of sessions best suited to their needs.
“All participants will be offered one-to -one ‘getting your life back’ sessions with our staff who are trained in person-centred counselling.
“Participants will also have the chance to bring a friend or work colleague to an epilepsy awareness training event.
“Attendees can also attend different seminars showing the impact of diet and sleep on epilepsy.
“Ideally, we hope to offer this service to around 20 individuals during the pilot phase.
“Spaces are limited so we encourage anyone interested to call or email to book their place for this popular and beneficial service as soon as possible.”
