CREATIVE Angus drinks producer, Ella Drinks, is supporting the Scottish Rural Parliament at the Brechin Community Campus this week, from the 6th to the 8th of October
Anne Thomson will be supplying her magnificent Angus Apples brand, both as a ready-to-drink apple juice for those attending and to the chefs who will be using her apples to create the apple sauce for a roast pork dish, an integral part of the locally-sourced menu as the pork comes from local butcher, Flemings.
Angus Apples is made using only locally-sourced apples from the surrounding walled gardens near to their production facility in Brechin.
Ella Drinks are a member of The Food Life, who will also be exhibiting with one of their exciting healthy, locally-sourced street food trucks; other local producers contributing produce are Grewers Farm, Ginger Snap, Katy Rodgers & Spinks of Arbroath.
In addition to supplying her fantastic range of products, Anne will also be contributing to two different workshops, both of which will be tackling issues close to her heart:
1. Pushing for small-scale processing facilities; barriers and solutions
2. Want good food available locally for all?
Anne Thomson, managing director of Ella Drinks, said: “We have the best larder, yet too little is consumed here.
“The food system is in crisis. We want to build an alternative, locally, which better meets needs.
“The Food Life is a group of farmers, fishermen and women, food truck owners, food retailers, cafe owners and chefs from Angus who have got together to make a difference to our food culture.
“We want local people to help shape our plan; so if you have an opinion or interest in food, please come along and give us your views so we can plan the next stage.
“If you are any part of the food supply chain with an interest in supplying local, then please come along. We want to work together to set the priorities and share the work needed.“
Emma Cooper, co-ordinator of the Scottish Rural Parliament, said “Food production is an important part of people’s livelihoods in Scotland contributing more than £14bn to the economy each year.
“Angus has a thriving food and drink industry, producing soft fruits, seafood and beef which are known for their excellence.
“We aim to share just a little of this with participants at the Rural Parliament and wholeheartedly support the efforts of Anne and the award-winning The Food Life project who are seeking to ensure local food is consumed and appreciated by people who live in the area.
“The Rural Parliament includes a number of discussions about food and produce and we would encourage people to attend the event this coming Saturday, 8th October, to hear more.”
