Media Release: Tissue Solutions Ltd celebrates living wage commitment

????????????????????

TISSUE Solutions Ltd are now an accredited Living Wage Employer.

The rapidly-expanding company has seen a record year, with sales almost doubling after a restructuring in 2015.

The move has been welcomed by the Poverty Alliance who deliver the Scottish Living Wage Accreditation Initiative in partnership with the Living Wage Foundation.

The Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at Tissue Solutions LTD, receive a minimum hourly wage of £8.25 – significantly higher than the highest band of the national minimum wage rate of £7.20, which only applies to over-25s.

The company went one step further by extending the Living Wage rate to all interns on temporary contracts too.

Begins a spokesperson: “The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually which is a voluntary rate for employers. The Living Wage is calculated according to the basic cost of living using the ‘Minimum Income Standard’ for the UK.

“Decisions about what to include in this standard are set by the public; it is a social consensus about what people need to make ends meet.”

Morag McFarlane, CEO, added: “We have always looked to reward staff fairly, and have been committed to paying our employees at least a Living Wage for some time. The Living Wage is a great way for any business to invest in their staff and show a commitment to them.

“We are currently going through a period of rapid growth; we have taken on several new members of staff and have plans to open an office in the USA later this year.

“People are our most valued asset, and are fundamental to the success of our business. We are proud of our growth, our commitment to providing our customers with a high-quality service, and our employees who make everything possible.

“We believe that by continuing to pay the Living Wage, it will help us to retain, attracting and recruit good employees that we will need to sustain our future growth.

“We would encourage companies not already doing so to become a Living Wage accredited employer.”

Peter Kelly, director of the Poverty Alliance, said: “Congratulations to Tissue Solutions Ltd on becoming an accredited Living Wage employer.

“With two-thirds of children in poverty in Scotland living in a household where someone works, paying the Living Wage is more important than ever.

“Not only does paying the Living Wage ensure that everyone takes home a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work, it has benefits to businesses too.

“These include increased productivity, increased staff retention and lower rates of absenteeism.”
