ONE of Scotland’s most popular visitor attractions celebrates its tenth anniversary of the completion of a major refurbishment with two gala concerts featuring the award-winning US soprano, Angel Blue.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum’s three-year £28m refurbishment was completed ten years ago this summer, and to celebrate the anniversary the Royal Scottish National Orchestra will perform two concerts, Music at the Museum, dedicated to the world of stage and screen, on Friday 16 September and Saturday 17 September (both 8.00pm).
American soprano Angel Blue, who funded her singing tuition with prize-money from beauty pageants – including Miss Hollywood 2005 – was subsequently mentored by Placido Domingo, and earlier this year made her critically-acclaimed Metropolitan Opera, New York debut, joins 2016 Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award winner, Aziz Shokhakimov, and Scotland’s national orchestra for performances which will include excerpts from Carmen, La Traviata, Tannhäuser and Eugene Onegin, as well as Summertime from Porgy and Bess and I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady.
The RSNO has been performing its late summer brace of concerts at the Baroque-style venue every year since it reopened in 2006.
The museum houses over 9,000 items, including a substantial natural history collection and one of the largest accumulations of arms and armour in the world.
The programme, under the title RSNO Gala Concert, also features at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, on Wednesday 14 September (7.30pm).

“I was completely awe struck by the beauty of the city and the people. Singing with The Royal Scottish National Orchestra is nothing short of a dream coming true. I’m looking forward to singing with a great orchestra and conductor in one of my favourite countries in the world.”
In October 2016, the RSNO begins the second of its two-season 125th anniversary celebrations, opening with RSNO music director, Peter Oundnian, leading the orchestra in performances of Rachmaninov’s Symphony No2 and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with soloist Nicola Benedetti, at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh on Friday 7 October and at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 8 October.
