Media Release: ScottishPower Foundation doubles donation to Glasgow hospice

THE generous ScottishPower Foundation has made a donation of £25,000 to The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice’s Brick by Brick Appeal – doubling the amount of money it has given.

Last year, the foundation gave £25,000 to the capital appeal to raise £21 million to build a new hospice for the people of Glasgow in Bellahouston Park. This year’s donation brings the total to £50,000, which will pay for a complementary therapy room in the new hospice.

“Complementary therapies help patients relax, easing their tensions and anxieties,” said the hospice’s chief executive Rhona Baillie.

“This room in the new hospice will help patients come to terms with, and manage, their illness. We can’t thank the ScottishPower Foundation enough for all their support, this is a fantastic donation.”

Work is about to start to build the hospice at Bellahouston Park, with patients expected to move in 2018. The new hospice will bring 21st-century palliative care techniques to Scotland, while offering patients the privacy, choice and compassionate care that everyone with a life-limiting illness should experience.

As well as providing 16 en-suite bedrooms and more space for families to stay and eat together, the new building will allow Glasgow’s Hospice to expand its services to include young people.

“We are delighted to be in a position to support The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice as it moves ever closer to making the vision of a new hospice a reality,” said Ann Loughrey, trustee and executive officer of the ScottishPower Foundation.

“Knowing that the funds from the foundation will go directly to supporting patients receiving care aligns to our values of making a real impact in local communities.”

The ScottishPower Foundation provides funding to registered charities and non-profit organisations.
