Media Release: Blaze staff toughen up in aid of international charity

Kayleigh & Dougie

TWO brave employees from a leading provider of fire control and safety solutions have undertaken a gruelling challenge in a bid to raise funds for its charity of the year.

Kayleigh McLean and Dougie Young, from Blaze Manufacturing Solutions (Blaze), which is headquartered in Laurencekirk and  offers innovative and type approved solutions to clients in the  greenfield and brownfield markets, recently completed the Tough Mudder challenge raising more than £550 for the firm’s chosen charity, Vine Trust.

The event took place on Saturday 25 June at Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries and Galloway and included over 20 strenuous obstacles to overcome.

Since the end of 2015, staff have been taking part in a number of challenging fundraising initiatives, and kick started their quest by completing the Beast Race, a 10km obstacle race held in Banchory.

With more than £3,300 raised to date by the firm’s dedicated employees, friends and family, the Blaze team is now well on it’s way to accomplishing its overall target of £3,700. Upcoming activities planned by the team to help them surpass this include a Blaze Bake Off, sports tournament and summer BBQ.

Vine Trust is an international volunteering charity, which works to enable volunteers to make a real and significant difference to some of the poorest children and communities in the world.

Funds raised by Blaze, which employs 31 full-time members of staff and 40 sub-contractors, are going to help the charity’s Tanzanian partners, Tanzanian Women Research Foundation (TAWREF), build homes for vulnerable children and orphans, enabling them to grow up in a safe and trusted environment, with food, clothes and clean water.

Miss McLean, senior finance assistant at Blaze and Tough Mudder participant, said: “It’s a great achievement for both Dougie and I to complete this gruelling event and raise funds for Vine Trust.

“It was very difficult at parts, however the Blaze team are a dedicated bunch and have supported us with our training and throughout the event. The moral support provided by the team, combined with the cause has given us great determination to meet the target for the charity and I’m delighted that we are almost there – just one more final push!”

Blaze’s finance director, Ann Johnson, added: “The firm positively encourages and supports staff to get involved in this type of activity, and we are delighted that so many members of our team are getting on board to raise funds for the charity.

“Once our target is accomplished, a team of Blaze volunteers will travel out to Tanzania to help the local partners build the TAWREF house to provide some of the most vulnerable children with a home, an education and a hope for the future – things that we so often take for granted.”
