THIS summer’s programme at Edinburgh New Town Cookery School (ENTCS) features one-day courses with a truly international flavour, covering cuisines from all over the world.
Courses range from the consistently popular Curries from Around the World 1 and 2, to Thailand, Japan, Vietnam and Spain, and a nod to France with Patisserie.
Closer to home, the Beer and Food Matching course on Tuesday 16th August is a perfect evening for Edinburgh Festival-goers who want to learn more about Scottish craft beers and food from local producers.
Another festival escape is on the calendar with a half-day Easy Entertaining practical course, during which participants will cook a three course lunch using seasonal ingredients and then enjoy it served in the school’s beautiful first floor dining room.
Summer is also a good time for people of all ages to boost their cookery skills on a one-month summer course in July. Whether it’s just to excel in the kitchen, to impress friends and family, or to add another skill with a view to future employment, this intensive course has it covered.
This is the perfect first step towards becoming the envy of friends, becoming a professional chef, or to open doors for gap year and holiday working. As well as leisure and pleasure courses, ENTCS offers three month certificate and six-month professional diploma courses starting again in September.
Under the guiding hand of principal, Fiona Burrell, learning is always fun at ENTCS.
Fiona says: “Our courses are designed to match people’s changing tastes. We all love to travel and experience new cuisines and what better way to hold on to those holiday memories than by learning to recreate the tastes and flavours at home. We can prove it’s easier than you think!”
An exciting new development is the introduction of a range of extra virgin oils from the Extremadura region of Spain.
These are wonderful products and a selection is available to buy at the School – including one that has recently won a prestigious international award from the International Olive Council (the Mario Solinas Quality Award, silver medal 2016).
