Media Release: Jump for Epilepsy in memory of Kieran and Garry

PublicRelationsToUse

FAMILY friends have organised a spectacular show jumping event to raise money in memory of Kieran Lyon and Garry Wilson.

Hundreds of horse enthusiasts will attend the event at Morris Equestrian Centre Kilmarnock on Sunday 5 June 2016 from 9am with profits going to Epilepsy Scotland.

Friends of both bereaved families have been overwhelmed by the support they have received for the event, with hundreds of pounds in sponsorship raised in advance of the event.

Garry Wilson, from Bellshill, passed away following a seizure, aged 15.

Kieran Lyon died from SUDEP (sudden and unexpected death in epilepsy) earlier this year, at his home in Ayrshire, aged only 19.

A collection taken at his funeral raised £300 for Epilepsy Scotland but family and friends have pledged to raise more money and awareness of the condition.

Says a spokesperson: “Up to 100 epilepsy-related deaths occur in Scotland each year and over half of these are estimated to be linked to SUDEP.”

The event is being supported by local businesses including 1st Choice Horse Supplies, Larkhall with Barry Savage attending on the day as a judge and business partner Thomas McCabe is donating prizes.

Rosettes will be given to winners on the day by event organisers and Epilepsy Scotland chief executive, Lesslie Young.
