ELLEN Doherty has been appointed to the post of director of education and professional learning at the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).
GTCS chief executive, Ken Muir, said: “Ellen has extensive experience in education gathered from years as a teacher, a professional educator at North Lanarkshire Council, and as a senior education officer at GTCS.
“We are sure she will build on the impressive work she has already achieved in her time here.”
The director of education and professional learning at GTCS has an important role to play in developing, promoting and implementing the Council’s educational, registration and professional learning policies.
On her appointment, Ellen said: “I am passionate about education and teacher professionalism.
“I am delighted to be appointed to this post, to have the opportunity to take forward the important work of the General Teaching Council for Scotland, working with others in Scotland and beyond.”
Ellen joined GTCS in 2014 and has played a leading role in the implementation of Professional Update. She will take up her new post in July 2016, following the retirement of the current post holder, Tom Hamilton.
Ken Muir, chief executive, added: “On behalf of the General Teaching Council for Scotland I would like to thank Tom for the significant contribution he has made to the Council and to Scottish education. We wish him a long and happy retirement.”
