BARRHEAD Foundry is one year old and everyone’s invited to its first birthday bash.
The all-day party starts at 10.30am on Sunday, May 22 and there’s a host of free fun activities for everyone to enjoy at Barrhead Foundry all day.
A real-life version of the popular children’s book, We’re Going On A Bear Hunt gets the party started as youngsters search Barrhead Foundry for a giant bear.
And for Star Wars fans, there’s the chance to learn how to create their own computer game, so they can head off into a galaxy far, far, away with Rey, BB-8 and Princess Leia.
There’s also plenty for lovers of nostalgia with The Street Where I Lived event. This takes us back in time with old photographs of Barrhead roads, buildings and places along with up-to-date pictures viewed online, so you can compare what they were like then and now.
There’s also a Heritage Surgery with experts answering questions about old Barrhead and Neilston and helping people with research into their family history.
Youngsters can make a splash with a Bookbug session with a difference as it’s being held in the swimming pool. And there’s also a Gingerbread Man Decorating session for youngsters.
There’s the chance to try out different sports with the Barrhead Community Sport Hub Club Showcase. There are taster sessions in bowls, boxing, cricket, football, handball, judo and netball in the afternoon. But this is likely to be popular, so email hello@barrheadsporthub.org.uk to get a pre-booking application form.
Anyone looking for a job can get all the help they need at the Employability Fayre featuring expert employment advice and local businesses who are looking for staff.
Anthony McReavy, chief executive of East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, said: “We’ve had a fantastic first year since the official opening last May with more people of all ages than ever before visiting Barrhead Foundry and using the excellent facilities there.
“We’ve even won a prestigious national award for the innovative use of our library space.
“We hope everyone has enjoyed the first year of Barrhead Foundry and we’re inviting each and every one of them to come along and celebrate with our birthday celebrations.
“It will be the biggest birthday party Barrhead has seen in a long time!”
