MORE than 400 people attended the flagship event of the Aberdeen, Highlands & Islands branch of the Energy Institute at Aberdeen’s Marcliffe of Pitfodels Hotel & Spa recently.
The organisation’s annual black tie dinner is widely regarded as one of the industry’s premier events.
The sell-out event once again attracted high profile delegates and speakers, and this year was no exception with guests hearing from Maria Moraeus Hanssen, chief executive of ENGIE E&P International, and Mike Wagstaff, chair of North Sea Midstream Partners (NSMP) and former CEO of Venture Production.
President of the Energy Institute Professor, Jim Skea of Imperial College, also addressed the distinguished audience.
Maria Moraeus Hanssen said: “In these difficult times for the industry, it was good to gather together in Aberdeen, for the Energy Institute annual dinner.
“ENGIE E&P has been present on the UKCS for almost 20 years and the company became a UK operator in 2002 with the acquisition of Cygnus. 2016 will definitely be a special year for us as the field will start production.
“When Cygnus comes on stream, ENGIE E&P will contribute to the security of supply in the UK with a peak production equivalent to 1.5 million homes’ daily gas consumption.”
Fellow guest speaker, Mike Wagstaff, added: “On behalf of myself and NSMP, it is an honour to be invited to talk at the EI’s dinner.
“In the challenging environment the North Sea is in at the moment, it is organisations like the EI which will help develop the technical skills to lead the industry into the future.”
Commenting on the event Aberdeen, Highlands & Islands Energy Institute chair and event host, Nigel Bradburn, said: “Our annual dinner has become a cornerstone of the local business calendar and, despite the exceptionally difficult market conditions, we were delighted once again with the excellent turnout.
“We are very grateful for the level of support which the EI continues to receive both at this event, and its many other long-standing commitments.
“Much of what we are able to achieve is thanks to people volunteering their time coupled with exceptional goodwill from numerous supporters and stakeholders right across the upstream landscape. Even in these difficult economic times the future looks bright for the EI.”
EI President, Jim Skea, said: “It’s great to be back home in North East Scotland and take part in the Aberdeen, Highlands and Islands Branch annual dinner. These are turbulent times for the energy sector and the Energy Institute is thinking hard about how it can adapt to new challenges and continue to flourish.
“I look forward to exchanging views with colleagues from the branch and developing a shared perspective on ways forward.”
