AN initiative led by local tourism businesses in and around Inverness and Loch Ness is to embark on a programme of trade shows and exhibitions to promote the area across the UK and overseas.
Visit Inverness and Loch Ness (VILN) has secured a 50 per cent investment from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) towards the £175,000 programme.
The project is expected to increase the area’s profile and develop distinctive regional opportunities. It will encourage collaboration among local tourism businesses and contribute to economic growth in the area, including job creation and retention.
Peter Allen, development manager with HIE, said: “Tourism is one of our priority sectors and we welcome this type of collaboration among businesses that will benefit the sector and the region’s economic growth. As a result of this initiative, we can expect to see an increase in tourism turnover in the area, particularly through the increased international activity.”
The VILN aim is to significantly grow tourism within the Inverness and Loch Ness area by increasing the number of visitors, the length of their stay, activities undertaken and return visits. This, in turn, will create jobs and new business opportunities, develop skills and bring about improvements in infrastructure.
Graeme Ambrose, chief executive of VILN, said: “We welcome the significant contribution of HIE towards our programme of attendance at trade shows and exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
“Being present at such events is a huge opportunity to raise the profile of the destination and drive potential business to our members, thus contributing to the sustainability of tourism in the Inverness and Loch Ness area.”
