WORKING with children is not necessarily everybody’s cup of tea, but for Stephanie Reidford, from Aberdeen, her job gives her reason to jump out of bed in the morning.
Stephanie, 21, has been working at Clockwork Pre-School Nursery since she joined the organisation after doing work experience.
A student at Kincorth Academy, Stephanie was keen to work with children and was delighted to gain a work experience place at Clockwork when she was 16.
Keen to recruit local, enthusiastic staff, Jill Clark, owner of Clockwork Pre-School Nursery, held a recruitment day, which Stephanie visited – with her parents.
Stephanie didn’t want to go to college, as she wanted to start earning her own money, so was delighted to get a job as a childcare assistant. She soon began on-site training and working towards her SVQ as a Childcare Practitioner.
Just four years later, Stephanie is now working towards SVQ level 4, and has been promoted to junior manager for the pre-school section of the nursery.
She explains why she loves her job: “There aren’t many jobs where you know that you will smile and laugh all day long. The children are so sweet and fun, they say funny things, which can just make your day. We are lucky at Clockwork to have a garden area and allotment, so we get to go outside and play every day, which is lovely.
“I find it fascinating how the children come in feeling shy but before long make friends and become really confident and relaxed. I particularly enjoy song time – the kids love to sing.”
Stephanie enjoys the warm atmosphere at the nursery: “Everyone is always really positive. We also have a cook on-site so we get fresh, delicious, warm food every day – and some pretty good snacks as well.
“I couldn’t think of a better job – I literally look forward to every single day. Smiles and laughter and lots of hugs at your workplace – that’s not bad is it?”
