LOCHABER Chamber of Commerce, through its ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’ destination brand, has recently launched the second in a series of video diaries designed to promote Fort William and Lochaber as a world-class tourist destination.

Supported by funding from VisitScotland’s Growth Fund and a number of local businesses, the second diary, again produced by John Sutherland of Croft 11 Media, focuses on how perfect the region is for groups of friends to visit for fun, great hospitality and adventures.
It highlights just how accessible the area is, the vast range of accommodation available and the diversity in both landscape and outdoor activities that it offers everyone who visits.
As a passionate visitor to the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’, Fiona Russell – aka Fiona Outdoors – an outdoors journalist and blogger whose award-winning blog has 18,500 unique visitors per month, is the diarist for the second video in the series.
Fiona explores the many different ways groups of friends can travel to Lochaber, the range of accommodation open to every budget, as well as the vast array of outdoor activities that can be tailored to all skill and fitness levels; from the most extreme mountain biking and climbing to the more easy going guided hill walking and kayaking, sea life adventures and wildlife watching.
The second diary has some stunning footage of climbing, mountain biking, wildlife adventures and the spectacular scenery across the breadth of the region’s diverse landscape.
Frazer Coupland, Chamber of Commerce’s destination manager, said: “The great outdoors means something different to everyone and we believe that the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’ has something to suit every visitor. In this diary we showcase the huge variety of active experiences available to the wide range of people who already visit the area or to those who maybe considering a visit with a group of friends; all set against some of the most magnificent backdrops around.”
The video can also be found on outdoorcapitaldiaries.com, a website hosting the video content promoting the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK; and blogs written by locals sharing their experiences of the events and activities on offer in the area throughout the year.
The Outdoor Capital video diaries are part of a larger marketing project being managed by Lochaber Chamber of Commerce, which has brought £50,000 of funding to the area to help promote it as a tourist destination across the UK and beyond.
Scott Armstrong, VisitScotland’s regional director for the Highlands, said: “We are delighted to give a VisitScotland Growth Fund Award to Lochaber Chamber of Commerce to produce these online video diaries which will help to showcase the region of Lochaber as a stunning and diverse area to visit and explore.
“It is not just about the active experiences and scenery showcased, however. People may come for the spectacular landscape and promise of adventure, but stay for the great hospitality, dining and more – all of which provides a boost to the visitor economy.”
