HIJOBS, an online portal to help jobseekers find employment in rural Highland communities, was recently invited to meet with well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr. Ann Gloag.
The meeting, which took place in the Entrepreneurial Spark Office in Edinburgh, was an opportunity to have a very frank discussion with one of Scotland’s most wealthy woman.
Begins a spokesperson: “Dr. Ann Gloag who helped build the Stagecoach Group from humble beginnings into one of the world’s largest providers of transport services was very impressed by what the team at HIJOBS have been doing.
“For the local economy to prosper, it is important that we are able to retain and attract as much talent as possible into the Scotland Highlands.”
Dr. Gloag, who is also an Edinburgh Napier University honorary graduate, said: “HIJOBS is an excellent example of a local business developing innovative ways in which to attract talent to a beautiful part of the world.”
Spanning rural locations in Scotland – in particular, in the Highlands and Islands – HIJOBS connects candidates with employers and enables them to stay in more secluded locations without sacrificing career potential.
HIJOBS technical director, Christopher Snelgrove, said “Meeting Dr. Ann Gloag really has been one of the highlights of my business career so far.
“When we described what HIJOBS has set out to do she immediately understood the pain points of employment we’re addressing in rural Scotland and gave us real plaudits on our idea and progress.
“It was humbling to get that endorsement from someone with her acumen and success, but I was especially grateful for her valuable insights she gave us that were going to put in place that will undoubtedly strengthen and grow our business.”
When asked about Entrepreneurial Spark and her meeting with HIJOBS, Dr Ann Gloag commented: “It is exactly the sort of initiative that I’m proud to be able to support and I very much enjoy passing on whatever advice and encouragement I can to some of Scotland’s next generation of entrepreneurs and wealth creators.”
