Media Release: New tenants are icing on the cake for UK Steel Enterprise

My Cupcake Toppers (6)

GROVEWOOD Business Centre, managed by UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE), has announced three new tenants at its business park premises on Strathclyde Business Park, occupying over 1,600 sq. ft. of space.

My Cupcake Toppers, one of the newest tenants, is renting its first commercial property after it was born out of a kitchen table business which started only five years ago.

The home business, My Cupcake Heaven, was started by Anna Kennedy in 2010 and initially intended as a bespoke bakery, supplying local events and parties with baked goods.

After two years running My Cupcake Heaven, Anna noticed a gap in the industry for decorative cake toppers for companies, charities and schools to promote their logo on the sweet treats.

Anna made the commercial decision to purchase an edible image printer and founded My Cupcake Toppers which now equates to 95% of both company’s turnover and successfully exports globally.

Due to increased demand which saw the business out-grow the home, My Cupcake Toppers has moved into a 492 sq. ft. industrial unit at UKSE’s Grovewood Business Centre in Bellshill.

Anna Kennedy said: “With the business going from strength to strength, I needed to move the operation from my home to a suitable office and work station that was fit-for-purpose.

“UKSE offered a space with enough room to grow into, plus the wide doors on the industrial unit meant I could move all the machinery in without a hitch.

“The office is ideal in every way, from location to the support system provided by UKSE. I can now focus on continuing to grow the business, develop my products, and look forward to hiring more members of staff.”

Another new tenant, Smart Solutions Recruitment, has announced its new office in Scotland with their move to Grovewood Business Centre.

A leading provider of outsourced labour solutions, originally in the waste and recycling sector across England and Wales, Smart Solutions has moved into a 687 sq. ft. office to expand the company’s UK presence, and to extend its offer of flexible and permanent labour services over multiple sectors north of the border.

SSC Laser Cutting has taken up residence in a 490 sq. ft. office in the same business centre. The company specialise in laser profiling, scanning and CAD (computer-aided design) services.

UKSE provides easy-in, easy-out office space for start-ups and SMEs as well as providing meeting room facilities and 24-hour access. Based on the prestigious Strathclyde Business Park, Grovewood Business Centre offers 46,500 sq. ft. of managed office space and industrial units to companies needing a place to start or expand.

Since UKSE started in 1975, 685 companies have shared the space and built up businesses, creating employment opportunities and economic growth in Lanarkshire.

Jackie Taylor at UK Steel Enterprise, said: “At UKSE, we support businesses realise their full potential and help encourage their growth, create jobs and boost the local economy.

“As a business incubator, the Centre acts as a perfect first office for growing companies such as Anna’s and our flexible rolling contracts are a great option for established organisations like Smart Solutions, wanting to set up shop in Scotland to service new account wins and access the growing economy.

“Alongside our office and workshop space, we also offer investment for companies wanting to set up and grow in Lanarkshire, Glasgow and Ayrshire.”

This year, UKSE is celebrating 40 years of supporting economic regeneration and the development of areas in the UK which have been affected by changes in the steel industry.
