CARL Donnelly’s effortless but pacy comic delivery, often with all the endearing immaturity of a toddler, is just like being in great company down the pub.
This is exactly what Glasgow comedy fans will get when Donnelly headlines Gilded Balloon Comedy at The Drygate Brewery on Friday 19 June 2015.
His vulnerable, low-status persona and mellow, laid-back character, a state that could be comedy suicide for some comics, gives Donnelly an appealing line in self-deprecation.
He portrays himself as the hapless idiot, stumbling through the feckless life of a comedian, yet landing on his feet through a fate of circumstance every time.
His personal tales and observational strands are invested with so much evocative description and told with such skill they draw out the humour, making his comedy pleasingly fresh.
Carl Donnelly will be joined on stage at Drygate by the easy going and confident Cheshire comic, Danny McLoughlin, and the Glaswegian comedian, Julia Sutherland; while Raymond Mearns will be keeping the comedians in check and the audience on their toes as the evening’s compere.
With a confident and easy going stage presence, innate comic timing and sharp wit Danny McLoughlin sifts through a range of personal anecdotes and off-the-cuff rants to expose the truth, the half-lies and the downright fabricated.
He is confident enough to take a risk on stage, delivering material with more than just an immediate pay-off line, preferring to take the joke one or two steps further, keeping his audience laughing along or hanging on his every word.
The Glaswegian comedian, Julia Sutherland, does darkly delicious comedy for grown-ups, always impressing on the live circuit; as well as being a radio presenter and producer.
If provocative, potty-mouthed girls with no discernable shame, is your thing, then she won’t disappoint! Julia is known for the brutally honest, deeply personal, and fearless ‘true life’ comedy. She offers up her transparent jellyfish heart, bares her flawed soul and finds the funnies in dark places.
The evening will be compered by one of the most trusted comperes and respected headliners on the Scottish circuit, Raymond Mearns. Larger than life and twice as much fun, Mearns is a quick with his brain as he is with his tongue.
This Glaswegian is always ready to dish out a bellyful of laughs to hungry audiences everywhere.
