JOB PURPOSE:
A key member of the marketing and business development department, the successful candidate will play an important role in supporting and implementing the firm’s internal and external communications strategy. This is a busy and demanding role. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to manage a complex and challenging workload while proactively delivering exceptional results. He / she will work closely with the managing partner, department heads, and marketing/business development professionals, to ensure the communications activities of the firm are effectively co-ordinated.
The successful candidate will be based in Edinburgh, with the requirement to work in Glasgow and Aberdeen on a regular basis. He/she will also be required to travel to London on occasion.
CORE TASKS:
• Support the delivery of a proactive communications programme for key practice areas
• Develop an detailed understanding of the specialist legal services offered by Brodies in order to communicate expertise to clients and relevant business sectors
• Work proactively to identify comment opportunities and article commissions on behalf of partners / lawyers / senior management firmwide
• Maintain and develop relationships and links with key contacts in the trade and national media so that they come to us as a primary point of contact. This includes establishing new networks to create new opportunities to communicate expertise
• Draft and copy edit press releases for distribution to media contacts and provide follow-up to ensure maximum press coverage
• Act as press contact when required and field enquiries from journalists and provide information on the firm
• Work closely with the managing partner, BD director, PR manager, and heads of departments both to raise Brodies’ profile and deal with varied communications issues
• Liaise with heads of department and the business development team to support idea generation linked to communications
• Provide and manage regular feedback on and evaluation of media coverage
• Conduct regular reviews of the internal and external communications messages, methodologies, processes and tools to ensure their appropriateness and effectiveness
• Write engaging copy for marketing collateral, including the firmwide seminar programme, adverts, event invitations, brochures, flyers and posters
• Work closely with colleagues to ensure the firm is making the most effective use of social and digital media platforms
• Assist with the progression and delivery of firmwide marketing campaigns
• Share knowledge about public policy and development in sectors relevant to the firm and its clients
• Promote the firm’s extensive public policy and Positive Impact (CSR) activities
• Contribute to the assessment and delivery of sponsorship and advertising activity
• Take a lead role in the co-ordination and preparation of the firm’s legal directory submissions
• Work closely with the PR manager to research, write and produce the firm’s annual review
• Be aware of Brodies’ information security policies, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
This is an attractive opportunity for those with experience in corporate and B2B PR and corporate communications. In addition to proven experience in the above areas of responsibility, we seek:
• A minimum of three years’ experience in journalism and/or corporate communications. A combination of journalism and corporate communications would be an advantage
• Excellent writing skills and scrupulous attention to detail
• Strong knowledge of Scottish / UK media, including broadcast and trade / sector publications
• Strong knowledge of current affairs and the current big issues for the legal and wider business sector
• A proactive approach, creativity, tenacity and energy
• A good understanding of social media and developing online campaigns
